Byron's big buds measure a whopping 8.6cm across - the same width as a beer mat and 2cm wider than an iPhone 6.
And daughter Emily 14, is not far behind at 7.3cm.
Byron, 47, only discovered his rare gift when he picked up a copy of the Guinness Book of World Records while helping Emily with a school project at the library.
The organisation has since crowned him the man with the world's widest tongue, making him something of a celebrity in his hometown of Syracuse, New York.
He said: "I get stopped by people at the grocery store or when I'm out in town to take a picture. I have had people come to my house to sign their record book. I even had one lady who asked me to lick her Guinness Book, which I politely declined."
He added: "I've loved the attention so far. Most people are just surprised I can talk normally.
"Some people also attempt to go in a more mature direction with some of their questions in regards to my love-life - but I am a father-of-three young ladies, so I tend to steer clear of answering those."
Byron is married to Vicki, 45, and has two other daughters, Andie, 15, and Cindy, 9. But it is only Emily who has taken after her dad in the tongue stakes.
He added: "Emily hasn't told anyone yet. Most of her classmates don't know.
"She's keeping her mouth closed - no pun intended. I think she's a little embarrassed to stand out as it is, but she's prepared for everyone to know and will enjoy the attention. Her close friends are very excited for her."
The property manager's unexpected journey began whilst helping Emily with a school project on non-fiction books.
Byron picked up the Guinness Book of World Records and turned to a page featuring a man with the 'World's Widest Tongue'.
Later while driving home he began to ponder if his own tongue was bigger than the 7.9cm he'd seen.
Once home he half-jokingly asked wife Vicki to measure him up but she turned him down - leaving Emily to take a measurement.
Byron was gobsmacked to discover it was in fact wider.
He said: "I couldn’t believe that I was going to be in the Guinness Book of World Records, a book that I have loved as long as I can remember."
After writing to Guinness World Records in London he was amazed to get their official nod and be confirmed as the man with the world widest tongue.
Byron now finds himself being approached by random people in the street - many asking for him to simply 'get it out'.
But the story didn't end there as a curious Emily measured up her own tongue in secret and found she was potentially the female record holder.
She said: "I had to think about submitting for the record for a while, but after seeing how much fun my Dad has had with it, I decided I would do it. After all, how many people have an opportunity to be in the Guinness Book of World Records?".
Proud Byron added: "We take it all in our stride. If you don't want people to ask to see your tongue when you're out in town, then this record may not be for you.
"It was something Emily had to decide on before she submitted her record. It has been funny to see people get excited over knowing or meeting someone who is the Guinness Book of World Records.
"It just shows what an impact this book has on the world."
Emily has since been confirmed as the female with the world's widest tongue.
